Position Title: Media Services Operator (Digital/Broadcast)

(Contract Part-time, As Needed Position, 1 year assignment)


Division: Technology & Operations

Department: Digital Media Services

Reports To: Manager, Digital Media Services
Salary Range: $28.50 - $34.14 per hour

Series: Group 8, Series 100
Location: Toronto, Yonge & Eglinton (on the Yonge subway line)

Overview:


Does the opportunity to work in the technical operations side of video, social media, podcast and livestreaming sound exciting to you? Are you a results-oriented and energized digital media services professional, ready to play an integral role in the success of the Digital Media Services team? If so, we want to hear from you!


The Media Services Operator will be an expert user of a wide range of software and hardware tools to provide ingest, video encoding, live web streaming, web video publishing, non-linear editing and closed captioning services to all TVO products including Current Affairs & Documentaries, TVOKids and The Independent Learning Centre (ILC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digitize, encode and publish video to be presented on multiple platforms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues, meeting all technical and QC criteria
  • Manage daily live web and social media streams
  • Format edit content for conventional broadcast and online platforms using Avid
  • Create, edit, QC and fix closed caption files
  • Convert “Roll Up” captions to “Pop On” to meet Canadian Industry specifications
  • Correct and compare caption files for monthly Live Closed Captioning Accuracy report.
  • Update and confirm technical metadata
  • Provide customer service to internal client departments including Content & Programming, Engineering, and Producers
  • Perform regularly scheduled deletes (SAN, Publish Points, Editing Systems, FTP, Aspera Shares)
  • Shift work will be required
  • Some weekends/holidays and overtime might be needed
  • Daily monitoring and maintaining shared email account
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • College Diploma in Broadcasting or equivalent work experience
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in a broadcast environment
  • Proficiency with the operation of video tape machines, video servers, routers and scopes
  • Familiarity with digital workflow and broadcast signal distribution is an asset
  • Familiarity with non-linear editing system is an asset
  • Strong communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and client departments
  • Comfortable communicating with operational counterparts at external vendors and distributors
  • Superior analytical skills to appropriately handle trouble shooting requirements
  • Ability to focus, multi-task and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation
  • Ability to accurately complete standard written reports
