Reports To: Manager, Course Delivery
Salary Range: $56,762.68 - $71,333.08

Location: Toronto, Yonge & Eglinton (on the Yonge subway line)

Overview:


The Learning Experience Designer is responsible to identify and develop effective and functional instructional strategies for the design and content of digital and/or print resources to support independent distance learning.


The successful candidate will have experience coordinating educational content and project work and has a proven track record developing multimedia content for online learning.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates closely with Producers, Pedagogues, Web Production Artists, and Developers to craft the learner’s experience for ILC online high school courses
  • Proposes, storyboards, and documents interactive concepts that outline how an experience needs to be built (the blue print to develop the digital tool)
  • Utilizes instructional design and learner experience / user experience best practices in the development and delivery of content, focusing on writing instructional language that helps a student navigate through an ILC course
  • Works closely with Pedagogue to craft instructional strategies and instructional language in course material
  • Collaborates and gives input to Pedagogue on how to adapt content for asynchronous learning in an online environment
  • Creates instructional materials including, but not limited to, videos, interactive learning objects, and audio/video scripts
  • Embeds data collection and feedback throughout course material in order to generate data-driven, actionable insights into the learner experience
  • Communicates progress and opportunities throughout the life of a project
  • Complies with process and guiding principles and contributes to iterative improvement of courses and course material
  • Ensures principles of inclusivity and legal requirements for accessibility are maintained in course design
  • Ensures course content is meaningful, appropriate, and authentic for learners at all levels
  • Ensures course quality, ensuring an engaging learner experience
  • Works with Media Research Team to ensure copyright compliance within existing budgets
As required, performs the following tasks:
  • Participates in project management related to course development process
  • Supports leadership in achieving the ILC’s educational mission and mandate
  • Performs other directly related duties
Qualifications:
  • University degree, in Educational Technology or Instructional Design, or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years related work experience in Instructional Design for active, online learning
  • Proven ability to design appropriate, accessible and engaging educational content for the independent online learner
  • Bilingual, French and English written and oral communication is preferred (French will be required for up to 2 of these opportunities)
  • Practical, applied knowledge of pedagogy for active learning
  • Information technology skills at a level that facilitates the rapid design and development of web-base, widget-driven online learning
  • Understanding of how to build effective and authentic assessment of learning and assessment for learning activities
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of roles at all levels
  • Proven ability to provide meaningful, targeted feedback on how to develop engaging online lessons
