Senior Developer At Toronto Public Library

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

Under the direction of a designated manager, the Senior Developer is responsible for providing
development leadership and developing, implementing and maintaining user-centred, fast-
performing customer facing applications through the integration of available technology
environments.

DUTIES:
Developer Duties:

Develops and builds web and mobile products
Implements toolkits & APIs for internal and external use
Coordinates the work of others including scheduling and assigning work, training staff,

providing direction, checking work in progress and upon completion
Interprets user requirements and designs solutions
Consults with users, and internal working groups and departments concerning changes

and analysis relating to the development and usability of new applications
Builds up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment

environment
Shares knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, both technical and

nontechnical
Provides training and advice to other staff as required
Collaborates with internal teams and external developers, designers and architects
Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques
Establishes a presence in the wider development community, identifying good practices we

can adopt and shares our experiences
Takes part in 2nd level support of applications and platforms
Understands and identifies the role of technology in public service delivery and policy

implementation
Carries out other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering or an equivalent combination
of education and experience related to the job responsibilities

A minimum of four (4) years' professional relevant hands-on work experience in a web or
software development role

Proven experience in a leading role, mentoring members of a development team
Demonstrated experience designing solutions

Demonstrated experience building server side applications and detailed knowledge of at
least one current and industry standard programming language, and/or a detailed
understanding and experience in frontend development (HTML/CSS/JS) including HTML5
and the use of modern frontend JavaScript frameworks

Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to a nontechnical audience
Demonstrated experience implementing and developing with service oriented architectures
Demonstrated experience developing and integrating third party Application Programming

Interfaces (APIs)
Experience working on technical projects within a multidisciplinary team using agile

methodologies
Experience using a unixlike operating systems such as Linux and/or Mac OS
Knowledge of relational and nonrelational database systems
Experience in system administration and configuration management
Experience building and scaling high traffic websites
Experience with integrated development environments and version control systems
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving abilities
Excellent verbal, written and data and information visualization skills


SALARY: $ 84,175.00 per annum (2019 Rate)
