Sr. Marketing Manager, Canada At Silicon Valley Bank

SVB has approximately 3,400 employees, $68 billion in assets, and 32 offices serving entrepreneurs around the world – 27 in the United States, and 7 outside the United States (Canada, UK, Germany, Ireland, Israel, India, and China).


SVB is currently expanding into the Canadian market to better service the booming Canadian tech and life sciences industries. We are currently looking to hire a Sr. Marketing Manager for a 14-month Maternity Leave Contract in our Toronto office, to join the leadership team and support the growth of the Canadian organization.


The Position

The SVB Canada Marketing Manager will be responsible for the delivery of the overall Marketing Plan for SVB Canada. The plan will be designed to support the business achieve its strategic market positioning and brand within the local markets. The Sr. Marketing Manager will partner with each defined business unit to ensure the plan aligns to their specific needs and delivers value through execution of a range of marketing initiatives and activities.

As a Sr. Marketing Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Canada, with a dotted line relationship to the Head of Marketing Strategy and Delivery, US.

The broad spectrum of this role will include, but will not be limited to:


Marketing Strategy:

  • Delivery of SVB's Canada Marketing Strategy and Marketing Plan
    • Ensure annual strategic marketing goals and plan align to the wider Canadian business strategy and global marketing strategy and include an integrated segment and sector strategy underpinned by input from the senior management team
    • Implement and execute coordinated and integrated tactical marketing plan utilizing and optimizing the full spectrum of available channels
  • Represent Marketing in the overall annual business planning cycle and business plan review for SVB Canada, including coordination and input into the corporate initiatives for the lines of business

Financial Management:

  • Define and manage the annual marketing budget for Canada with business partners
  • Negotiate agency services to ensure competitive rates for service and performance levels in collaboration with the US team
  • Continually assess marketing return on investment to ensure solid performance
  • Report financial metrics to senior management of SVB Canada

Corporate Communications


Manage, enhance and monitor the reputation and brand image of SVB in Canada in conjunction with the teams in the US

Responsible for developing and executing internal and external communications, events, sponsorships, multi-channel marketing, PR and social media for Canada in collaboration with marketing partners across the organization. Components include:

  • Continued development and enhancement of marketing collateral and communications, including the Canadian website
  • Research industry conferences and symposiums to determine applicability of pitching company executives for panels, keynotes and educational sessions
  • Collaborate with internal departments to produce, edit and publish content aligned with broader content strategy
  • Support the sales teams in identifying and executing strategically aligned sponsorships and events which provide tangible benefit
  • Continuously collaborate with the corporate communications team in the US to deliver PR and social media activation in market

Product Marketing (overall product marketing comes from the US, however, possible need for local adaptation)

  • Provide strategic in-market insights for the development, roll-out and launch of new products and propositions to SVB Canada
  • Collaborate and advise in the development of internal training modules for new or existing products
  • Collaborate with product teams, as well as US marketing staff, to develop and manage product promotional materials and campaigns to both internal and external audiences including product positioning and messaging that conveys the value to each Canadian target audience

International Management

Critically, in addition to being a key part of the Canada Management Team, you will act as a liaison point between the Canadian market and US Marketing. This will entail:

  • Reporting Canada marketing performance to business partners in Canada and the US as needed
  • Representing the Canada marketing voice with other marketing team leads including corporate communications, product, data analytics and events
  • Ensuring that Canada plans are executed in a way in which is consistent with Bank/Group wide standards, brand approach, budgets, collateral design etc.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate

You possess a high level of energy and initiative and be capable of functioning as a collaborative partner and value-added business contributor. You are be hard-working, self-motivated and able to work independently in a collaborative environment.


You have proven expertise in Marketing, across a broad range. Specific Financial Services, Venture Capital and/or Technology Marketing experience an advantage. You bring a strong sense of ethics, sound business judgment and the desire to be a business-oriented problem solver.


Skills and requirements

You have the following:

  • Education: A degree in Marketing or related subject an advantage;
  • Work Experience: Relevant work experience essential, with 7+ years in various Marketing roles.
  • Seasoned Judgment and Analytical Skills: You demonstrate sound judgment and strong critical thinking skills. You are extraordinarily intelligent and able to grasp concepts quickly, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and risk, able to synthesize complex information effectively, and seasoned in translating complicated issues into actionable recommendations and solutions.
  • Strong Relationship-Building and Collaboration Skills: You work actively to establish close ties with others in the organization, work effectively with others to achieve the company’s business objectives, be willing to be held accountable to others – both horizontally and vertically.
  • Communications: You have excellent communication and presentation abilities, including strong written and verbal skills and the ability to explain issues and decision as well as strategy both internally and externally. You are an excellent listener who works to understand the needs of others.
