The IT&S Digital Accessibility Lead will champion inclusive design and accessibility across Information Communication and Technology (IT&S). They will drive strategy and lead the development of an accessibility practice in IT&S with a focus on designing, building and procuring accessible digital solutions for Scotiabank’s internal and external facing digital products.

Is this role right for you?

  • You will be responsible for the end-to-end strategy & execution of complex digital accessibility and inclusive design initiatives spanning multiple concurrent projects in IT&S.
  • You will articulate and advocate for digital accessibility and inclusive design best practices across IT&S.
  • You will conduct through research and consultation with people with disabilities, identify opportunity spaces for inclusive and accessible products and services.
  • You will establish guidelines, best practices, processes and systemic frameworks for implementing and sustaining accessibility and inclusive design across IT&S.
  • You will communicate the accessibility value proposition to both internal and external audiences.
  • You will provide direction, coaching and professional development to all members of the team.
  • You will support lines of business on the procurement of accessible IT solutions.
  • You will engage thoughtfully, collaboratively and diplomatically with the engineering and business teams to identify the right support needed to drive accessibility efforts.
  • You will work closely with other accessibility, design and usability specialists within Scotiabank.
  • You will actively participate and contribute to the Design Community of Practice and Digital Accessibility Community of Practice.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have developed a thorough understanding of front end technologies including limitations and constraints, as it relates to digital accessibility for mobile and responsive web applications.
  • You havedeveloped a high level of awareness of disability related issues with respect to digital accessibility.
  • You possess expert knowledge of accessibility standards and principles including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • You have developed a proven ability to provide accessibility solutions for designers, developers and testers.
  • You have thorough knowledge of accessibility testing techniques using automated and manual testing procedures.
  • You have a proven ability to effectively communicate the complexities and opportunities of accessibility and inclusive design to technical and non-technical audiences with various skillsets.
  • You have a thorough understanding of an inclusive, human-centered approach and methods to design.
  • You have well rounded relationship building and strategic influencing skills.
  • You are self-driven, with ability to take ownership and accountability; must be adept at working in a self-guided manner.
  • You are a collaborative leader who leverages diversity across disciplines/locations/levels to fuel creativity and innovation in inclusive technology design.
  • You have a passion for changing the way people bank and work, and a willingness to live in the future and build what’s missing.
  • You have 8 + years of practical digital accessibility experience.
  • You have 3+ years building a digital accessibility program and developing high-performance teams in fast-paced evolving organizations or demonstrated ability to inspire/coach accessibility specialists to be their best
  • You have a MBA or Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction/Design or equivalent experience
