Commercial Product Manager At Plains Midstream Canada

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Job Description

Plains Midstream Canada (PMC) is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). PMC also operates strategically-located facilities for crude oil and NGL storage, separates NGL from natural gas and fractionates NGL into pure liquid petroleum gas (LPG) products, including propane and butane.

The role is a key part of our growing IS Commercial delivery team composed of ~7 full time employees and a large contractor contingent.

Plains Midstream Canada is currently looking to fill the role of Commercial Product Manager in IS, which will be based in the Calgary corporate office. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with a track record of managing relationships and leading transformational initiatives, with a demonstrated strategic approach. They will bring the deep expertise needed to lead the Commercial product delivery organization and make strategic product or business service decisions. Primary responsibilities will be for guiding the success of a product or business service and leading the cross functional team that is responsible for its creation and management over its lifecycle.

The role spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides important cross functional leadership – most notably between business stakeholders, IS and product engineering teams. Key to success will be the ability to understand and combine business needs, technology options and customer experience.

Responsibilities:

Product Leadership and Business Management:

  • Translate business requests into a product vision and roadmap
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the key business and technology stakeholders
  • Facilitate and drive alignment among key stakeholders
  • Provide information for leadership by preparing short-term and long-term product/service area reports and analyses; answering questions and requests
  • Manage interface and collaboration with other internal IS teams / vendors
  • Establish, manage and work with product budget
  • Enable adaptive governance to make frequent and dynamic prioritization decisions
  • Ensure Plains is prepared to deliver and service products and business capabilities throughout their lifecycle before production
  • Continually monitor and refine the product offered post implementation

Product Lifecycle Management:

  • Act as keeper and communicator of product vision
  • Define product roadmap based on business outcomes and desired capabilities
  • Define the right product and the right features to meet the business needs, in keeping with Plains ability to execute the technology within the desired timeframe and budget
  • Build business and user experience into product development as well as a focus on required features
  • Collaborate with product delivery teams and other products managers
  • Coordinate with other critical stakeholders such as business, IS Operations, BPMO and enterprise architecture
  • Drive towards minimum viable product (MVP) delivery as a way to test product idea, validate assumptions and gauge business reaction prior to final product development
  • Lead the design development and requirements definition
  • Responsible for tactical decisions pertaining to product / service area execution and support
  • Provide clear direction to engineering and development teams

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance, or information systems and 10+ years of related work experience.

This role emphasizes an entrepreneurial spirit, independent and creative thinking and requires leadership through collaboration.

  • Business acumen and enterprise knowledge (prior Commercial and/or Logistics experience within a Midstream company considered an asset)

  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.

  • Experience with Commercial ETRM and logistics systems
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and take action on it
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Completion of background check
