About Pioneer Works:
Pioneer Works is a non-profit cultural center located in Red Hook. We are dedicated to experimentation, education, and production across disciplines. Through a broad range of educational programs, performances, residencies, and exhibitions, Pioneer Works transcends disciplinary boundaries to foster a community where alternative modes of thought are activated and supported. We focus on programs that are free and open to the public and strive to make culture accessible to all. Over the past few years, we have launched a new ambitious Science Studio dedicated to the mission that science is part of culture. We bring Nobel Laureates in conversation on Dark Energy, Genetic Manipulation, AI, and Robotics. And we give our growing community a voice in that important conversation.
About this Position:
Pioneer Works presents public programming and hosts residents across the disciplines of Visual Art, Science, Technology, Music, and Literature. Over the past six years, we have welcomed over 1 million people to our predominantly free public programming in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In our quest to ensure culture is accessible to all, we are developing a digital Media Lab to make available our expansive digital archive of past programming with fascinating, ambitious, provocative original content. Through recording, archiving, and dissemination, the Media Lab will translate the work and programs that occur within our building for publication online. The rollout will be highly curated to ensure our content offers a tool for learning and inspiration. The Media Lab will boost our reach while maintaining our unique flexibility to pursue new opportunities and technologies. Our goal is to break conventions, invent new ways of communicating cultural programming, and extend beyond our walls, beyond Brooklyn, to reach curious people across the globe.
This six month archivist position would assist a Media Strategist in creating a roadmap for Pioneer Works to develop a Science Channelas a proof of concept for a larger Pioneer Works Network. The larger network would offer digital programming and reach new audiences around the world across the fields of Visual Art, Science, Technology, Music, and Literature. The part-time archivist will work with the Media Strategist to make this possible by editing and organizing digital material as well as assisting in research/outreach endeavors. This position will be part-time at 30-35 hours a week.
