Major Gift Officer At Pine River Institute

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

Location: Toronto
Reports to: CEO, Pine River Foundation

Salary Range: $85,000 to $90,000 per annum (based on 40 hours per week)

We are seeking a major gifts specialist who is ready to take the next step in an already rewarding career. This new position offers the opportunity to learn and employ new approaches to major gift fundraising as a crucial member of a development team that is being trained and supported in the principals, processes and practice of Fundraising Performance Imperatives (FPI).

About Pine River Foundation

Pine River Foundation (PRF) supports excellence, integrity, and innovation in the treatment and study of adolescent mental health and addiction. Our primary focus is to advance the work, reach and impact of Pine River Institute (PRI), a uniquely successful, comprehensive, and family centered treatment program for teens who are struggling with addictive behaviours and often other mental health issues. The generous support of our donors sustains everything we do to ensure that more youth, and their families, have access to the quality care, services and information they need to get and keep their lives, relationships and futures on track. PRF has more than doubled its results, and impact, for two consecutive years and is poised to achieve exponential growth with the addition of this, and other, key positions.

Major Gift Officer - Position Summary

The Major Gift Officer helps achieve Pine River Foundation goals and objectives by developing and managing personal relationships with donors and potential donors by facilitating their engagement with other individuals who are part of the team to create affinity and loyalty to PRF and Pine River Institute (PRI).

The Major Gift Officer does not work alone; they will coordinate development teams that surround and actively engage prospective donors. The Major Gift Officer is responsible for ensuring all activities are well-planned, timely and appropriate to the situation.

The Major Gift Officer works closely with an assigned Development Services Officer (DSO) on a daily basis who will serve as his or her process partner. The Major Gift Officer relies on the services and technology of the DSO and the Development Services Team (DST) to handle administrative, planning, coordination and reporting details and to provide a level of support in the development process that allows him or her to devote at least 80-percent of available time to front-line donor-facing work.

The Major Gift Officer engages, coordinates and works with assigned PRF or PRI board members and other fundraising volunteer partners (primarily, but not exclusively major donor volunteers) and with PRI executives, clinicians and alumni to connect with potential major gift prospects. These prospects are identified through personal networking, point-of-entry events, facility visits and prospect identification activities.

The Major Gift Officer engages with and ensures qualified prospects are intentionally moved through a defined Fundraising Performance Imperatives (FPI) process of relationship development. The Major Gift Officer will often close gifts as a member of solicitation teams that include PRI executives, clinicians and community volunteers.

The Major Gift Officer also engages in personal telephone prospecting to identify qualified potential major gift prospects. They will do so using call lists developed through databases, prospect identification and analyses by the DST.

The success of the Major Gift Officer is not measured by the amount of money raised through their individual efforts. The measures and metrics of success are based on teamwork and achievement of FPI Qualified Actions that are leading metrics of success.

The Major Gift Officer reports to the PRF Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in a related field; and/or

  • Three to five years’ experience in fundraising (ideally with some major gifts experience) or in a related career such as sales

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Driven self-starter with a demonstrated talent for building relationships and a preference for engaging in donor facing activities

  • Maturity, political savvy and ability to work within a complex environment

  • Knowledge and familiarity with the philanthropic community in Toronto and surrounding communities is an asset

We offer competitive compensation, and the opportunity to be part of an exciting and innovative program.
