Software Engineer, Internal Tooling At Loblaw Digital

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

As a Software Engineer, Tooling Internal, you will be a member of the Engineering Productivity organization, and at the heart of Loblaw Digital's engineering process, building software that empowers engineering teams to develop and deliver high quality products quickly. SETI's are focused on solving most interesting challenges of developing software at scale without sacrificing stability, quality, velocity or code health.

We ensure Loblaw Digital's success by partnering with engineering teams and developing scalable tools and infrastructure that help engineers develop, test, debug and release software quickly. We impact hundreds of Loblaw Colleagues and millions of Canadians by increasing the pace of product development and ensuring our products are thoroughly tested. We are champions for code health, testability, maintainability and best practices for development and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead/contribute to engineering efforts, including planning, organizing, executing, and delivering.
  • Solve complex engineering problems through tools. infrastructure, and testing/
  • Design and build advanced automated testing frameworks (think model based testing and massively distributed testing orchestrated by queues)/
  • Identify, adopt, and integrate best in class tools to drive Engineering Productivity principles. (think RabbitMQ, Selenium, Docker).
  • Design and build tooling and infrastructure to help engineering teams measure and increase their velocity (think Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability.
  • Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with and influence others to improve the overall design.
  • Adheres to the standards with respect to tools, framework, scripting and versioning techniques as directed by Develpoment Leads. Performs maintenance to existing solutions including updating documentation.
  • Communication: Responsible for assessing and communicating status of activities. Leads and guides junior team members in the documentation of training materials.
  • Supports testing of solutions by other teams and peer reviews work done by junior team members and monitors the progress on their tasks.
  • Continuous Improvement: Helps open opportunities to uplift automation capability and contributes to their implementation through supporting change, innovation and improvements

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with one OOP and one functional language including but not limited to: Java, Objective C, Swift, Ruby/Python, Elixir/Erlang, Go.
  • Relevant internship or work experience, including development and/or test automation experience.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Expertise with two or more OO programming languages (Java, Ruby, Python)
  • Expertise with two or more Functional programming languages (Elixir/Erlang, Scala, )
  • Expertise with one or more System programming languages (Go, Rust, C)
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux environments
  • Deep knowledge of Internet technologies
  • Scripting skills in Perl, Shell or another common language
  • Extensive experience of source control systems and continuous integration (CI) systems
