Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

Looking for a challenge? Good. Excited about building something from ground up? Even better. Eager to work for a fast-moving team? Perfect!

Loblaw Digital is building a new, cutting-edge Marketplace Shopping Experience as its next major initiative. The team behind this will be building and operating the next generation of massively scaled systems and services to support our marketplace vision.

Working from our downtown office, you will report to the E-Commerce Technology Lead and will assist in building, improving and maintaining a world-class, multi-channel e-commerce platform. This is a rare opportunity to build new technology that will operate at a massive scale and impact the lives of millions of Canadians.

Product Discovery Team

Every great e-commerce customer journey needs a starting point. As a part of this team, you will build a seamless and intuitive product discovery experience on Loblaw e-commerce websites. By building and operating the pages and underlying systems powering product search and exploration, you will provide the ability for millions of Canadians to browse and purchase vast amounts of products, forming the backbone of this e-commerce engine.

This is a hands-on role in the Marketplace Team where you will lead and develop in back end technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a deep understanding of the portfolio of applications we utilize, along with their respective strengths and weaknesses, to provide solutions to existing and future challenges.

  • Assist in the design of software components to enhance our portfolio.

  • Develop complex software using Java, Spring, MVC, React and Redux.

• Construct design documents and documentation to aid in maintenance and code reuse.

  • Through your knowledge of industry trends and tools, together with your own experiences, work with the team to improve our software, our environment, and our process.

  • Provide guidance and direction to the development teams to tear down obstacles and keep initiatives on target and moving forward.

  • Translate project goals and product roadmaps into organized technical tasks.

  • Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and multiple stakeholders simultaneously.

  • Provide technical guidance and support in resolving critical issues.

  • Offer your input and expertise to technical and non-technical audiences.

What You'll Need:

  • You are a seasoned developer with minimum 2 years leadership experience

  • 4-5 years experience development in Java, Spring, MVC, React/Redux. (Experience with Elastic Search and Solar Search a bonus!)

  • You are opinionated about what it takes to produce great software, but remain receptive to other's ideas.

  • You care about ownership. You proactively seek out bugs and fix them. Occasionally, when bugs find you, you don't sweep them under the rug.

  • You are experienced with software estimation, often confronted with complexity and uncertainty.

  • You make decisions based on data. You are versed with tools to measure every aspect of the application.

  • You have developed large applications in a team environment.

  • You are not afraid of changes. Armed with excellent refactoring techniques, you work effectively with legacy code.

  • You are a good communicator. You are able to present complicated solutions to non-technical audience in a simple and logical way.

Here are just some of the things Loblaw colleagues enjoy:

  • 10% Colleague Discount Program on eligible products sold at Loblaw stores.
