Pourquoi ce role est-il important?

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Data, Insights and Analytics, the Senior Director of AI/ML will lead a team of advanced data scientists to develop the company’s capabilities in advanced analytics. This leader will direct the day-to-day advanced analytics function and also serve as the company’s thought leader in this emerging space.

The leader will be accountable for:
  • Methodological discovery and application – oversee the company’s analytic R&D function with a focus on evaluating new methods and determine the strategy to deploy across the enterprise.
  • Advanced analytic training and development– develop the learning and training activities in these areas for the Data, Insight and Analytics organization and where applicable the enterprise.
  • External partnerships in the AI/ML space – manage external partnerships including universities and also serve as the company’s spokesperson on AI/ML.
  • Collaboration with Enterprise IT to develop and support the company’s data and analytic infrastructure.


Scientific Discovery and Application

  • Lead a team of AI/ML data scientists to:
    • Evaluate new methodologies
    • Support the analytic teams with new solutions
    • Identify new business opportunities to leverage

Training, Development and Adoption

  • Develop training activities to increase enterprise capabilities
  • Support analytic teams with development and deployment of solutions
  • Stay abreast of relevant innovation and developments in AI, machine learning and deep learning
  • Stay abreast of industry trends as they relate to data governance and analytics, including evolving technology, big data, AI, anonymization, data minimization, privacy, security by design, etc.
  • Lead the company’s external partnership activities in advanced analytics


  • Provide leadership to ensure a high performing data and analytics delivery team with appropriate skills and capacity required to enable the organization’s analytics and data products objectives with the goal of enabling customer centric decision making
  • Be a coach, mentor, and role model for members of the data and analytics community across Loblaw to help attract and grow our talent
  • Demonstrate credibility through expert strategies
  • Execute with precision and completeness. Tenaciously anticipate and address questions.
  • Shift the organization to be data driven insight oriented to support the creation of amazing customer experiences and customer stickiness across our business

Role Requirements:

  • A leader in the AI/ML fields
  • Leadership capabilities that foster a high performing team
  • 10+ years leadership experience specifically within the data and analytics field
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with a track record of professionalism, innovation, integrity and high energy
  • Highly desired is a candidate who has experience in a complex matrix environment whereby his/her success was achieved through a combination of an internal team, and outsourced providers
  • University degree and/or a professional designation with computer science or engineering background
  • Quantitatively driven, will understand the value of information, and will use this to drive strategy and tactics. He/she will be a decisive individual with a passion for results, and will have the ability to influence and guide the actions of others
  • Honest and ethical with unquestionable integrity
  • Drive change, be confident, resilient and persistent.
  • Persuasively influence diverse audiences. Persist in the face of demanding, sceptical constituents.
  • Demonstrated emotional maturity, self-awareness, and learning, with a strong capability in building interpersonal trust.
