IT Analyst, Data & Analytics At Loblaw Companies Limited

Working in the Information Management, you will be part of a senior level team responsible for:


  • interpreting project based data requirements, creating data mappings, performing design and maintenance of the Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models within the Data Warehouse domain by leveraging your applied knowledge of distributed technologies, databases and data architecture.
  • Help in architecting and developing and up-keep of scaled-out, near real-time, highly performing big data infrastructure allowing Loblaws to leverage data effectively for internal / external data ingestion, stream processing, advanced analysis and applications including assisting in preparing a roadmap for Big-Data Systems.
  • Help in architecting and upkeep of our Analytical System (SAS) and SAS software roadmap, presenting technical briefings to the support staff, developers, analytical and the management teams.
  • You will be accountable to consult and/or analyze engagements to assess the data requirements, perform data analysis of business information requirements, develop, and deliver data models that are aligned to either: application, data warehouse, or enterprise models.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Hadoop and ecosystem:
    • Assist in designing Hadoop Cluster environments for application and data consumption.
    • Assist to build, implement, and support the Data Infrastructure to build high quality and world class system to support the enterprise data needs.
    • Support and integrate Big Data Tools and Frameworks.
    • Assists in maintaining an Innovation cluster by staying on top of the recent developments in Hadoop open source projects and ecosystem

  • Analytical System:
    • Assist in designing, architecting and upkeep of Analytical System (like SAS, Anaconda, R) for data consumption and data analysis.


  • Data Modelling and Data Reporting:
    • Define Data Requirements through interpretation of Business Requirements and/or direct interviews/requirements gathering.
    • Communicate Logical Data Model changes and additions to business users for validation
    • Provide Design input to the Data Architect, DBA and the ETL team to enable the creation of the physical data models
    • Provide input in setting the direction for enterprise data strategies that support the long term business vision.
    • Design, develop and deliver transaction level and aggregate level reporting.
    • Trouble-shoot reporting anomalies and make modify existing reporting packages as business needs require
    • Implement automation of standard reporting



Skills and Qualifications:

  • Hadoop
    • 3-5 years of Data Engineering, Data Analysis, Data Warehouse, or Data Transformations experience.
    • Experience architecting, building, and administering large-scale distributed applications.
    • ETL experience with Hive/Tez/Spark.
    • Hadoop Ecosystem knowledge (HDFS, YARN, MapReduce, HBase, Pig, Sqoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka, Flume, Kylin, Presto).
    • Knowledge of Data Warehouse and BI concepts including ETL/ELT Data Pipelines.
    • Fluent in BASH shell and SQL.
    • Any Experience with AWS or Azure and Linux system administration, network services (DNS, LDAP), Security Kerberos principals, Database administration would be an asset.
    • Past experience of Programming with Python or Java or C
  • Analytical System:
    • Experience with SAS system, R , Anaconda would be an asset.

  • Data Modelling /Data Reporting:
  • Demonstrated ability in the creation of Enterprise level data content
  • Possesses solid understanding on the Enterprise Architecture vision and direction
  • Possesses experience using data modeling tools (e.g., ALLfusion Data Modeler [ERWIN], M1, IDQ and Rational Data Architect)
  • Working Knowledge of SQL is a must.
  • Prior experience in SAS, R, Python is a bonus.





EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience.
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Possess or be working towards Hortonworks certification or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including the proven ability to understand and communicate complex technical information.
  • Strong knowledge of information systems concepts.
