Advanced Educational Support (AES) personnel work as members of the school-based learning team to assist classroom and learning support teachers in providing specialized supports to students with complex learning needs. AES will have specialized skills, training and/or experience in the areas of Braille, Sign Language, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ESL, FASD or Advanced Behaviour Supports.

Advanced Educational Support Positions are right for you if you:
The Director of Inclusive Education determines assignments. You will work as a member of the school-based team in your assigned school. If needs change and your support is no longer required at the assigned school, the director will reassign you to another school requiring supports for students with complex learning needs.
What will you do?
The role of an Advanced Educational Support is to provide positive behaviour support interventions and strategies in the Resiliency Program or home school for students who demonstrate disruptive and/or aggressive behaviour. Lethbridge School District No. 51 makes every effort to ensure staff and student safety, but not every unsafe behavior on the part of students can be anticipated. Students may display a number of challenging/impulsive behaviors including hitting, kicking, spitting, biting, throwing items, poor attention, and difficulty making transitions.
An AES is required to provide supports and services in a flexible, coordinated and effective way. Supports may include a behavior plan, occupational therapy reinforcement, speech/language support, assistive technology, social skill training and direct training in executive functioning skill development. The AES will work collaboratively with the Resiliency Team or the Learning Team to develop programming goals that focus on behaviour, academics, communication and social skills. The individual will work as part of a team and independently to implement programming and supports as identified by the team. This includes working with other staff in meeting the personal and social care needs of individuals and promoting their well-being in a way that values the dignity of the individual and promotes choice, respect, participation and independence. It may also involve building capacity of other staff.
