Software Development Manager At Kitco Metals

Location: Montréal, Quebec

Job Description

Software Development Manager.

PURPOSE:
The Software Development Manager is responsible to plan, direct, and coordinate all development teams’ activities including but not limited to defining tasks, setting priorities, design and development of systems, applications, apps, services of the Kitco digital ecosystem. The candidate must have extensive experience in development and management of scalable, reliable, secure and high traffic web sites and applications, and should be equipped with the best practices and knowledge of the state of the art technologies and methodologies. He/She must become the “go to” person for anything regarding the software development and managing the activities of the software developing team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
  • A hands on leader, balancing multiple important priorities and projects and keeping the team organized and focused on achieving their goals.
  • Proactively and efficiently plan and manage the team activities including but not limited to design, development, training, and evaluation.
  • Set attainable goals to team members to have the initiatives, tasks and projects finished on time, and make sure commitments are met and the timeline is followed.
  • Actively participate in the design and development and make sure the best solutions are selected and implemented with respect to the requirements and constraints.
  • Provide guidance to team members to optimize and encourage work productivity.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures and processes are followed when it comes to software development.
  • Actively participate in monitoring, maintaining and improvement of CI/CD and S/W development pipeline and processes.
  • Actively manage and participate in the analysis of software requirements, design plans, reviews of the unit tests, documentation, and system monitoring.
  • Learn and support all internal systems as directed by the functional lead.
  • Adhere to departmental and company standards, processes and procedures.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the peers to ensure optimal productivity.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Expert in planning and team management.
  • Expert in design and architecting scalable, reliable, and secure software and services.
  • Experience with common programming languages such as Node.js, Java, Python, PHP, etc.
  • Knowledge of AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins, Selenium, Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, Chef, Nagios).
  • Experience with MicroServices, Serverless and container based development and cloud computing.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong inter-personal and management skills and passion about training, mentoring and sharing knowledge and experience with other team members.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Follow instructions and commitments as agreed with functional lead.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Familiarity with AI and Machine learning (and in general, AI).

TECHNICAL/PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five years of development management experience in a formal development environment.
