Essential Job Functions
Kirkland & Ellis LLP New York is seeking an assistant to support the corporate business development/marketing (BD) efforts of the Firm.
You will report directly to the Director of Corporate Business Development with additional oversight and direction by the senior staff members. In this position, you will communicate and collaborate with more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international BD team provides seamless service to some of the brightest minds in the legal industry, with an emphasis on quality, innovation and responsiveness.
In this role, you will assist with preparation and the maintenance of client-facing marketing materials, presentations, responses to RFPs and other marketing collateral. You will support the maintenance of the matters database and engage in client/industry research.
The successful candidate will possess outstanding PowerPoint skills. He/she will have strong analytical skills and eye for detail, and be able to simply (and concisely) convey complex information. Candidates should have a general understanding and an interest in private equity, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and/or debt finance.
Assist with the execution of client-facing corporate pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including compiling targeted, relevant experience as it relates to the client’s or prospect’s industry, deal or fund size, or transaction type.
Provide assistance with the development, updates, and accuracy of marketing collateral including practice descriptions, brochures, PowerPoint templates, deal lists, accolade summaries and attorney biographies.
Support senior practice development staff by proofreading; turning edits; formatting and design. Exceptional PowerPoint skills are required.
Assist with basic market, industry and client research and data collection to assist with pitch preparation and various projects.
Assist with maintenance of the corporate experience database, including data entry and record updates.
Update data in the Firm’s marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database.
Assist with various corporate marketing and business development initiatives, (e.g., client receptions, panel presentations, CLE presentations, webinars, conferences, etc.), as needed.
Assist with various other initiatives that intersect with other functional areas within the business development context.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is required and and an ideal candidate will have one to two years of work experience, preferably in a law firm, finance or an investment banking environment.
Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must.
- You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- You must have strong project management skills and exceptional business acumen.
- You will be required to handle ambiguity, influence others and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results.
The position demands meticulous writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software.
- A demonstrated interest in mergers and acquisitions and/or related disciplines is a plus.
Proficiency with MS PowerPoint is required.
- Strong skills in MS Word and Excel are preferred. Ability to learn and adopt new technology software quickly and a desire to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Experience with Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, Bloomberg Preqin, Pitchbook, The Deal Pipeline, Manzama, BoardEx and/or Relationship Science will inure to the benefit of the candidate.
Experience with Adobe and SharePoint are preferred.
