External Impact Associate At KIPP LA Schools

Job Description

The Mission

KIPP LA Public Schools operates tuition-free, open enrollment public charter schools focused on preparing students in under-resourced communities for choice filled lives. We currently operate 18 schools and serve over 7,500 students. Our team is expanding rapidly; over the next five years, we will more than double the number of students we serve.

The Opportunity

  • The External Impact Associate will have a critical role in supporting KIPP LA’s externally facing team. He/she will be primarily responsible for supporting the Chief of External Impact and key functions of the department - Development (Fundraising), Advocacy and Community Engagement, Marketing and Communications. The External Impact Associate will report to the Chief of External Impact. KIPP LA is a fast growing organization, and we are looking for a strategic thinker that can build systems at all levels of the organization.
  • Support projects and other tasks as instructed by the Chief of External Impact
  • Create and produce External Impact dashboard for progress monitoring across the region; oversee tracking and data analysis of goals. Manage weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Process funds received (checks); reconcile weekly/monthly with Finance and Accounting departments, ensuring all proper background information is documented. Ensure donation thank you/tax acknowledgement letters are sent out 24 hours within receipt of donation. Process all invoices and contracts in a timely manner.
  • Research and create bios for team’s external visitsProject manage a variety of ongoing externally facing projects; functional areas of responsibility could include one or more of the following: general meeting support (reserving meeting spaces, meeting room set-up (including materials set-up, tablecloths, posters, ordering meals), school tour agendas, additional community volunteer activities.
  • Manage key vendor relationships including swag promotional items, printers, etc.
  • Manage seasonal projects for the External Impact (e.g., bi-annual retreats, holiday and team celebrations)
  • Create External Impact resource center and bulletin, manage regional External Impact calendar
  • Assist with External Impact events as necessary, including KIPPSTAR, MOKA, Start Strong, Gala (tbd), and Parent Summit

The Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2+ years of work experience in a fast-paced, high-capacity work environment with a strong background in analytics, project management or education
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
  • Effective teamwork orientation with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies, including senior leaders, contractors/vendors
  • Hardworking, motivated and self-directed; able to think critically and anticipate needs of customers to simplify processes and improve efficiencies across the teams
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • A demonstrated passion for improving K-12 public education
