Staff Accountant At KIPP Foundation

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant

ABOUT KIPP TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS

For more than 15 years, KIPP Austin, KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth, KIPP Houston, and KIPP San Antonio have put thousands of KIPPsters on the path to and through college. Last year, we collectively educated over 25,000 students in more than 50 schools, covering a geographic area of over 400 miles. Our regions have a long history of informal collaboration, with teachers and staff members sharing ideas, curricula, professional development, facilities, finances, end-of-year field trips, and more. As of the 2018-2019 school year, all KIPP schools in Texas join forces as KIPP Texas Public Schools, a state-wide network of schools dedicated to supporting students to and through college!

The Opportunity

The Staff Accountant will help with all aspects of non-profit accounting functions, with specific responsibility around accounts receivable and revenue. The ideal candidate enjoys working as part of a team and supporting hard-working staff in their accounting needs. Individuals with experience in non-profit and fund accounting are strongly encouraged to apply, as well as those with bookkeeping or accounts receivable experience. The position will play a significant role in establishing a strong finance/accounting platform as KIPP Texas Public Schools grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monthly recording of various checks and wires to the appropriate cash general ledger accounts
  • Monthly recording of revenue to the appropriate revenue general ledger accounts
  • Prepares journal entries
  • Trial balance true-up and reconciliation
  • Help design accounts receivable processes to better serve our schools (i.e. develop useful, step-by-step processes related to accounts receivable)
  • Answer inquiries from employees and outside customers regarding accounts receivable and related matters
  • Train and support schools and other staff members on cash collection processes
  • Assists with fiscal year-end close audit
  • Additional duties as needed and or assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (preferred - if no degree, years of experience will be highly evaluated during the hiring process)
  • 1-3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience (required)
  • Previous experience with non-profit, accounts receivable, education and/or fund accounting preferred; May be substituted with adequate finance/accounting experience in the private/government sector
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to learn and work with MS Excel and finance/accounting software platforms
  • Possess an ability to break down complex information into manageable parts, ask questions, synthesize and analyze
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Works well with a team and independently; ability to work cross-functionally with other departments (HR, Development, Operations, etc.)
  • Positive, customer service-oriented attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial and outcome-driven environment

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
