Employment and Training Specialist, TMEP (term role) - Calgary At Kinder Morgan

Who We Are

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting crude oil and refined products to the West Coast. We deliver nearly 300,000 barrels of crude oil and refined products each day through 1,274 kilometers of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington State.

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project will provide increased capacity to support Canadian crude oil production growth and ensure access to global energy markets. The largest project in our history, it involves the installation of approximately 980 km of new pipeline, new and modified facilities including pump stations and terminals, and a new dock complex at the Westridge Marine Terminal in British Columbia.

As a federal Crown corporation, the newly formed Trans Mountain Corporation will continue to build upon our 65 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system.

We are accountable to Parliament through the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV). As a wholly-owned subsidiary of CDEV, we are governed by an independent Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Lead of Employment and Training, the Employment and Training Specialist will work collaboratively with project teams, general contractors, and Indigenous, local and regional groups to promote employment and training opportunities in the support of TMEP requirements and commitments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Working with TMEP contractors to execute, monitor and audit implementation of Indigenous, local and regional employment and training plans
  • Provide key input in providing contractors with an understanding of the Owner requirements for employment and training
  • Review training programs and support the lead in managing the contractors performance
  • Reporting employment and training achievements
  • Development and management of training programs and initiatives
  • Meet the objective of the Employment and Training Program - to maximize employment and training opportunities for Indigenous, local, and regional community members

Position Requirements


Position Requirements:

  • Business Degree or equivalent with relevant experience, certification and licenses
  • 5-10 years of industry experience in local content and Indigenous affairs
  • Experience successfully planning and supporting major projects
  • Must be proficient in relevant computer applications including all Microsoft Office products Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team of project professionals
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups
  • Experience in managing and monitoring performance of contractors as it pertains to Indigenous and local inclusion
  • Experience developing training programs and initiatives to support skills development and employment
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex problems and make sound decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times

Location/Working Conditions

  • Contract position based on the requirements of the project
  • Based in Calgary, AB
  • Up to 30% travel may be required
