SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Category Development Analyst is responsible for providing in-depth analysis of category opportunities for assigned head office customer and making recommendations to the Account Manager that support the achievement of budgeted sales and share volumes and the establishment of K-C category dominance.


KEY CUSTOMERS AND CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS:
Key customers for this position are Customer Development, Category Development, Customer Development Leadership, and Retail Customers. These customers expect clear, succinct, compelling and timely communication of Category Development principles and consumer needs to support customer and Kimberly-Clark objectives.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
This position reports to the Category Development Team Leader and interacts internally with the Brand Teams, Customer Teams and other Customer Development staff.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide category management expertise (including Planograms) to assigned head office customer in the areas of product mix, shelf merchandising, promotion, pricing, and profitability to enable Kimberly-Clark to become the supplier of choice and to assist retailers in the management of KCI’s product categories.
  • Assist with projects as part of the Category Development team. Develop category overviews and action plans, as directed by sales managers and the team leader, utilising category management software that will deliver customer category objectives and improve sales results.
  • Assist in developing category knowledge and expertise in the Sales team to enable Kimberly-Clark to take full advantage of all sales opportunities.
  • Participate in customer presentations, and interface with category decision-makers within assigned customer organizations on category developments and opportunities.
  • Communicate with Marketing brand management personnel on key category initiatives and developments to ensure category management principles are included when developing products, marketing plans, and programs.
  • Monitor developing category management trends and techniques by the Trade, other manufacturers, and vendors of software. Provide recommendations on the use of new software and techniques to the team leader.
  • May maintain product master file of both competitive and K-C products, taking accurate measurements of products and electronic photo images to be used in conjunction with space management software.
  • May provide technical support with POS data processing and Nielsen Quad (weekly) data reports, and translating purchased data into K-C meaningful data to support analysis.
  • Contribute, when required, in situations, projects, and activities not included in other principal accountabilities to assist in the accomplishment of business objectives and personnel development.
  • Contribute to the achievement of business and personal objectives by seeking and responding to performance and development feedback, and by initiating personal development activities to enhance functional effectiveness.

Qualifications
Education required A recognized Bachelor’s Degree and equivalent work experience.
Experience: 3- 5 years industry experience with 1 – 2 years in account management / category management, preferably with a Consumer Packaged Goods company.
Skills/Competencies: Microsoft Office Suite , advanced Excel, Space Management Planogram (Modular) Software, pivot tables
