Corporate Communications Specialist At Hudson's Bay Company (HBC)

What This Position Is All About:

The Corporate Communications Specialist provides support to the overall Communications Department in executing of the company-wide communications strategy.



Who You Are:

  • Sound judgment when engaging with media, colleagues, business partners and executives
  • Superior writing skills, including an ability to simplify concepts and tailor messaging for specific audiences
  • Exceptional researching, editing, and proofreading skills, including strong grammatical skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to produce high-quality content while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms, including LinkedIn
  • Knowledge of retail and real estate industries a plus but not required
  • Ability to respond quickly to internal demands and a changing workload
  • A strong sense of ownership and personal responsibility
  • A high degree of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
  • A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Above average computer skills, including strong expertise with MS-Office applications
  • Team player - focused on customer service
  • Must be flexible in working nights, weekends and holidays, if needed

  • Excellent communication, writing and organization skills. Ability to write press releases/media alerts with a high level of clarity and professional credibility is a must
You Also Have:
  • 1-3 years of experience in corporate communications, agency experience preferred
  • 1 year of experience working directly with the media (keen understanding of the business/financial media landscape an asset)
  • University degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a related discipline or diploma/certification in corporate communications or public relations
  • An understanding of working with public companies, as well as journalist timelines and requirements
  • Writing samples required
As The Corporate Communications Specialist, You Will:


The core objectives of this role are to:
  • Manage and execute media monitoring and results reporting
  • Assist with the planning and execution of large-scale projects and special events
  • Support senior members of the team in working with internal clients to meet their communications needs
  • Ensure that communications advice and solutions are aligned with HBC's corporate goals and core message platform
  • Write and edit materials that adapt to a variety of audiences and formats (presentations, key messages, website content, articles, Q+A/briefing documents)
  • Fact check media relations efforts
  • Research, write, edit and proofread content for various types of materials including statements, speeches/talking points, press releases, backgrounders, and social content
  • Own calendar for the department - rollup of all HBC corporate, business, and competitor activities
  • Conduct in-depth research on issues, industry news, etc. as needed
  • Research on reports/editors, summarizing for upcoming opportunities
  • Database and media list building and maintenance
  • Provide real-time recaps for major company initiatives and competitor events
  • Support of other communications functions as needed, including internal communications and social/new media
