What This Position Is All About:

The Product Development and Design Assistant is responsible for supporting the successful execution of a brand design strategy. In this role, the Assistant's core responsibilities are supporting the Design Director in trend development, sourcing manufacturers, and creating cohesive collections across women�s footwear and handbags for Hudson�s Bay. This individual must be able to understand the brand aesthetics and demographics and create curated assortments based upon the customer needs. The Assistant is responsible for the timely execution of key design milestones from concept through final buy meeting. S/he will also lead collaboration with execution partners including sourcing, technical design, merchandising, planning, and buying. The Assistant will partner with external Design and vendor partners as appropriate by brand.

Candidates will be asked to include a portfolio of their illustrator work and other CAD work.

You also have:

  • College/University degree, preferably in Product Development, Fashion Design or Merchandising
  • 1-3 years of experience in merchandising or product development, preferably in a leather-driven commodity
  • You are proficient in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office, including a strong knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Strong sketching ability and high proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator


As the PD&D Assistant you will:

  • Maintain ongoing reports and tracking documents as required
  • Complete seasonal eCommerce form and coordinate with eCommerce team
  • ITP- prepare ITP�s after Merchant�s seasonal assortment adoption
  • Document and update all product information in the Status Sheet and maintain timelines once ITP is written
  • Maintain and update Assortment Line boards
  • Initiate and manage seasonal packaging photography schedule
  • Communicate with packaging team and support the PD&D Manager in approving packaging art.
  • Follow up on Domestic Packaging, ensuring that all packaging requirements and brand standards are maintained
  • When applicable attend Vendor, Buyer, and GS meeting
  • Recording meeting minutes for weekly Global Sourcing meeting and merchant/Global Sourcing team meeting
  • Analyze and troubleshoot product issues in a timely fashion
  • Communication with buyers, Global Sourcing and PD&D Associate Manager & PD&D Manager on a regular basis to ensure critical milestone dates and met and deliveries stay on calendar
  • Manage sample room
  • Be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the seasonal design strategy
  • Drive the timely execution of the Design Calendar
  • Lead collaboration with execution partners, both internal and external
  • Create line sheets
  • Lead and manage design processes and product
  • Scan the market for trends and compile trend recaps and presentations appropriate for the brand aesthetics and demographics
