Coordination and implementation of the City of London’s CityGreen environmental education and outreach display at special events throughout London.
The City of London attends many community festivals and events between the months of May and August. The CityGreen display trailer and materials contain both general environmentally-themed information and customized information designed for the event. The CityGreen display trailer is staffed with a minimum of one person and may involve one or two others depending on the size of the event.
The CityGreen Outreach Intern will have the responsibility for coordinating and delivering environmental outreach campaigns at these events with the goal of engaging the general public and encouraging active participation in our programs. The Intern will work closely with experienced City staff. Events could be small (a couple of hours) and cover one of two environmental subjects or involve multiple days and events covering a broad range of environmental subjects.
The position will also assist with the delivery of Transportation Demand Management program activities (i.e. walking, cycling, carpooling promotion)
A portion of the job involves the creative aspect of developing new environmental education and engagement materials and techniques. Testing approaches and benchmarking the results to investigate new engagement strategies (e.g. “gamification” of environmental messages). This include
- Assisting City Staff in developing strategies to foster change in environmental behaviors.
- Assist in designing and implementing education and engagement materials and techniques that focus on actions the public can take to reduce their environmental impact
The position will also assist other Environmental Programs staff as required. This may entail assisting with Transportation Demand Management, Urban Watershed Program, Community Energy and Corporate Energy programs. Assisting the Active & Green Initiatives Intern (the companion MES program intern position) with their respective duties.
