Economic Development Officer - Business Development At City of Kawartha Lakes

Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Economic Development, this position is responsible for providing business expansion and retention advisory services to established companies and potential businesses within Kawartha Lakes. You will,

  • Develop partnerships and engage senior executives in the business community, industry organizations, senior government and neighbouring municipalities;
  • Develop business cases and servicing strategies for expansion clients and investment prospects on competitive advantages within Kawartha Lakes;
  • Develop and implement strategies to facilitate business growth in targeted industry clusters;
  • Assist in organizing/hosting trade and investment delegations, representing Kawartha Lakes at trade shows and industry events;
  • Provide a leadership role in the areas of designing, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating information, educational and marketing programs, materials and services to attract, retain and increase business investments in Kawartha Lakes;
  • Develop and maintain detailed informational data-bases capturing current employer information, growth and downsizing potential and linkages to available real estate inventories;
  • Conduct and facilitate meetings and executive interviews that may include business stakeholders, elected officials, regional government intermediaries and partners;
  • Develop and monitor program budgets and budget impacts for existing or proposed business initiatives;
  • Develop intergovernmental partnerships, research and prepare applications for available grants and subsidies for municipal economic initiatives;
  • Prepare Council reports and content for press releases and respond to press inquiries on a variety of issues related to business development
  • Utilize Social Media, such as Twitter, Facebook, blogging, etc., to promote business in the City of Kawartha Lakes, as well as become proficient with the use of CRM software such as Salesforce

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Marketing, Business Administration, Economics or a related field;
  • Minimum 4 years of related progressive experience in the development and implementation of economic development strategies;
  • Enrolment in the national Economic Development (EDAC) certification program is an asset;
  • Thorough understanding of municipal economic development issues, both rural and urban and working knowledge inter-governmental funding programs and opportunities;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage projects and to establish and sustain solid working relationships and partnerships;
  • Commitment to contribute to and to build upon a positive and healthy working environment, and commitment to quality and process improvement
