ACCOUNTANT ASSOCIATE At City of Houston, TX

POSITION OVERVIEW

Workdays & Hours: Mon-Fri*; 8:00am - 5:00pm* May require some evenings and weekends*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Public Library (HPL) seeks an energetic, self motivated, organized, detail oriented, customer-service driven individual with superior interpersonal and communication skills as to join the Financial Services team. This position will perform a detail and variety of entry level professional accounting duties related to HPL's Funds such as:

  • Receiving, organizing, coordinating, and tabulating the department's daily cash receipts.
  • Prepare the daily deposits for both City and Foundation funds.
  • Prepare and process Cash Receipts (CR) documents in SAP to record all revenue received by the department.
  • Monitor and prepare reports on department's revenue.
  • Coordinate and receive all purchased goods in SAP.
  • Monitor and track purchase orders to make sure goods are received.
  • Track, monitor, and prepare monthly purchasing and receiving reports for the department.
  • Maintain files, logs, and reports on all purchased goods and services.
  • Create excel spreadsheets to track and maintain purchasing and receiving activities for the department.
  • Assist with the recording of all transactions in accordance to the accounting policies and procedures with the stipulations and guidelines.
  • Assist in coordinating the development and implementation of a variety of financial services, polices, programs, techniques and analyses to effectively prepare budgets and special projects.
  • Provide administrative support in all City of Houston funds and other financial issues within the department.
  • Provide exceptional customer services to both internal and external customers.
  • Support Financial Services team and perform various clerical operations, duties and special projects as needed and required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field such as Finance.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.

Four (4) years of pertinent professional or para-professional experience may substitute for the education requirement. An Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field and two (2) years of pertinent professional or para-professional experience may substitute for the education requirement.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None


PREFERENCES

Previous experience working in a Financial Office/Section setting is highly preferred. Current and proficient knowledge of SAP and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) is preferred along with experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, have strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Great organizational skills, high attention to detail, accurate dexterity and detail oriented is also highly preferred.
