Reporting to the Paramedic Deputy Chiefs, the Program Manager/Commander is responsible for the direct supervision of Paramedic Supervisors and support staff and the indirect supervision of paramedics; managing investigations and ensuring regulatory compliance; management and delivery of ambulance operations and support services including all related aspects of the staff, assets, health and safety, deployment, logistics and support, and emergency planning; and executing and managing all assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
A related University degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience as a Health Care Provider with progressively responsible management experience preferably in Emergency Health Services.
Previous successful experience supervising and managing operational units, ideally Paramedic Services and in a unionized environment.
Working knowledge of all applicable Acts, Regulations and Standards regarding Emergency Health Services in Ontario.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
Working knowledge of Emergency Health Services, emergency communications and the provision of emergency health care in a unionized environment.
Proven competence in time management, interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills including negotiations, developing and maintaining positive internal and external relationships, analytical skills, conflict resolution, deployment process and emergency communication systems.
Demonstrated ability to exercise superior judgement, tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and complex, time-sensitive situations in a constantly changing environment.
Will have and maintain Advanced EMCA status and all the applicable MOHLTC requirements and conducting the skills required by Hamilton Paramedic Service for the primary care paramedic level. Will be able to be certified by the MOHLTC appointed Base Hospital program within 90 days of being hired.
Must possess a valid Class "F" Driver’s License.

Driver's Abstract Check
A Hamilton Paramedic Service representative will be completing a Driver's Abstract Check. You must have a valid "F" class licence. Your driver's abstract must be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton.
Immunization Status & Free from Communicable Disease - MOHLTC Standards
You are required to provide proof that you are currently immunized or are immune to the following: (a) tetanus (b) poliomyelitis (c) diphtheria (d) chicken pox (e) measles (f) mumps (g) rubella (h) hepatitis B.
We require signed medical proof by your physician on your immunity status to the above listed (history of exposure, immunization and/or lab work) of proof of immunity.
Center for Paramedic Education & Research (CPER) Certification
You must successfully complete and become certified in the skills and knowledge as set out by the employer and the Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) Centre for Paramedic Education & Research as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)
Ministry of Health & Long Term Care (MOHLTC)
You must meet all the requirements of the Ontario Ambulance Act, regulations & associated standards that pertain to the issuance of a provincial identification card;
You must meet all the requirements of the Ontario Ambulance Act, regulations & associated standards that pertain to the qualifications of a Primary Care Paramedic; You must provide copies of your A-EMCA, College Diploma in Paramedic Studies as well as the documentation outlined in the Ontario Ambulance Act, regulations & standards pertaining to a Primary Care Paramedic.
