Under general supervision, perform all operational and basic predictive and preventative maintenance duties on a rotating shift basis for the water and wastewater treatment facilities and outstations; assisting operating and maintenance staff as required. This will involve exposure to varying climatic conditions, potential exposure to trace chemicals of treatment chemicals, sludge, water and wastewater, work at computer terminals and work at heights and in confined spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
At time of application must hold a current valid Operator-in-Training licence by examination in:
a) Wastewater Treatment System Operation, Certificate of Competency, and
b) Water Treatment System Operation, Certificate of Competency
Must be able to obtain by examination:
a) A Level I or higher Wastewater Treatment Operation, Certificate of Competency, and
b) A Level I or higher Wastewater Collection Operation, Certificate of Competency, and
c) A Level I or higher Water Treatment Operation, Certificate of Competency, and
d) A Level I or higher Water Distribution Operation, Certificate of Competency
NOTE 1: These licences must be obtained within a period of three (3) years to continue employment in this position.
Previous experience in water and wastewater treatment preferred. Must be able to work independently and with other staff.
Must possess and maintain a Class "G" Driver's License (or better) valid in the Province of Ontario and a point-free driving record and or record found to be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton.
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Forklift Operator’s Certificate.
Must be able to work shifts and report on-call outside normal work hours and to report to various work sites.
NOTE 1: To be able to perform this job function a person must be able to wear and maintain self-contained breathing apparatus and be able to pass a full face mask fit test.
