Grant Programs Outreach Advisor up to 11 months

This position’s key activities will be to support program development and administration focusing mostly on one of the following areas: Change for climate initiatives, Transportation and Land Use Initiatives, Commercial and Residential Energy Transition initiatives and Brownfield Redevelopment and Clean Energy Improvement Program(CEIP) within the City Environmental Strategies section at the City of Edmonton.

Duties include:
  • Brownfield Redevelopment Support & Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) Support
    • Facilitate brownfield redevelopment support services (telephone, email, in person meetings, presentations to stakeholders). Work with Brownfield owners/developers/internal stakeholders on business cases to address remediation and redevelopment - financial and environmental benefits and costs
    • Identify, implement and monitor business process improvements that will facilitate brownfield owners and developers in achieving the City’s goals on sustainable brownfield development (increased density, clean air/soil/water, sustainable building practices)
    • Facilitate the implementation of Clean Energy Improvement Program including:
      • Create and maintain an Edmonton specific program manual
      • Application file handling
      • Engagement with and support of external stakeholders (3rd party Administrator, Contractors, Applicants)
      • Contribute to program enhancements based on success metrics and research findings
  • Energy Transition Commercial Programs Support & Energy Transition Residential Programs Support
    • Support the various commercial and residential programs in development and in market including but not limited to: Building Energy Benchmarking, Commercial Incentive Program, Corporate Climate Leaders, Energy Leadership Network. This support will have various forms including by telephone, email, in person meetings, engagement activities
    • Assist relevant departments with incorporating/awareness of commercial programs (permitting, zoning, law, finance, other)
    • Program Performance Tracking and evaluation for changes/enhancements including report preparation and data analysis
    • Work with external service delivery firms executing residential programs on behalf of the City of Edmonton
  • Transportation and Land Use Initiatives, & EcoCity/CitiesIPCC Legacy Research Grant Programs/ Sponsorship Program
    • Support the various electric vehicle and land use initiatives in development and in market including but not limited to:
      • Electric Vehicle Charging Station partnerships
      • Electric Vehicle Charging Rebate, E-Bike program and
      • Electric Vehicle Strategy (under development with City of Calgary)
    • This support will have various forms including by telephone, email, in person meetings, engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders
    • Work with external service delivery firms executing programs on behalf of the City of Edmonton
    • Facilitate the execution of the two Grant programs
      • Work with stakeholders to oversee and update the program with new/different municipal priorities
      • Monitor contracts for amendments, renewals, invoice payments
      • Create and update a manual for program oversight
    • Facilitate the execution of the sponsorship program
      • Review submissions for eligibility
      • Provide summary packages to program manager for review
      • Work directly with applicants
      • Facilitate sponsorship payments as necessary
  • Community Engagement Event, Annual Perceptions Survey & Change for Climate Engagement Vehicles
    • Event organization, site selection, agenda preparation, speaker booking, promotion, budgeting and contract input and execution for a large scale (500+ participants) event
    • Facilitate the annual update and rollout of the changeforclimate.ca perceptions survey. This will include but not be limited to:
      • Review results data
      • Adjust survey content
      • Promotion and launch
      • Report writing and recommendations for the following year program
    • Support for the various initiatives to expand the membership, keep members updated and ensure the various communication channels are up to date and effective. Some of the initiatives directly linked include:
      • Climate Ambassadors program
      • Climate talks
      • Emerging “Target 1.5” messaging through the changeforclimate communication vehicle - particularly the Carbon Budgeting
  • Provide general program/project support as needed for initiatives across the Section and other related duties as necessary
Qualifications :
  • Degree in Science, Alternative Energy, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Business or related
  • 5 years’ experience in the field of program work, project work and/or community recreation which includes demonstrated experience in program development, organization development, provision of information/referral, contract management, client services and program evaluation
  • Familiarity with grant and community program development and delivery is an asset
  • Knowledge of property development, highly organized/project administration skills, familiarity with energy management and auditing
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing including presenting information to the public
  • Ability to respond to difficult situations and resolve conflicts
  • Proven ability to recognize and manage group dynamics
  • Ability to chair committee and meetings
  • Ability to identify and solicit appropriate cosponsors is an asset
  • Ability to advise groups on volunteer recruitment and management is an asset
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
