Environmental Program Specialist

Some key functions of this position include:
Assist students, teachers and residents who want to learn about recycling, reuse, home composting and waste reduction
Deliver educational tours of the Edmonton Waste Management Centre for students and adult groups
Plan and deliver in-classroom educational presentations to elementary students and a variety of adult groups
Plan and host displays that engage and educate residents about Waste Services initiatives at trade shows, special events and pop-up events
Canvass communities and conduct interviews with residents regarding waste reduction behaviours
Recommend projects or program changes to improve our communication with the public, our facilities and our programs
Deliver program materials to various facilities/businesses/residences and assist with maintaining the inventory of program supplies
Maintain program statistics and assist in developing and conducting various research projects as needed
Perform related duties and provide assistance to program coordinators as required
Act as Branch mascot occasionally
Completion of Grade 12 or GED
Six months of experience working with children, the general public and making presentations or leading educational programs
Must be a personable and enthusiastic presenter with excellent communication, organization and customer service skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to assess different situations and exercise strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications
Possession of Standard First aid and CPR Certification
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Applicants may be tested
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Education, Drama, Environmental Studies or a related discipline
- Knowledge of current waste management initiatives in Edmonton
- Previous work in an interpretive environment
- Experience with Smart Boards

Some evening and weekend work is required.
Salary: $19.115 - $23.664 (Hourly); $33,675.80 - $41,690.050 (Annually)
