Education and Outreach Assistant Summer Student (Economic and Environmental Sustainability) 4 months

2 temporary full-time positions for 4 months commencing in May 2019, intended specifically for students currently attending a recreation, education, environmental sciences, urban planning or related post-secondary diploma or degree program and returning to school full-time in the Fall of 2019.
City Environmental Strategies Section works to ensure Edmonton's environment sustains quality of life for our present and future citizens. By developing and updating policies and environmental programs and ensuring citizens are engaged and informed, the Section is better able to manage ongoing and emerging issues they oversee such as clean air, energy transition, climate change and brownfields.
Support outreach and promotional efforts to inform and engage staff and citizens in reducing their carbon footprint
Attend special events with displays and information-gathering materials to move information out and to gather information about target populations
Assist with the marketing, promotions and delivery of special events to internal and external audiences
Develop questionnaires and surveys to assist staff with programming

Currently attending and returning full-time in Fall 2019 to a recreation, education, environmental sciences, urban planning or related post-secondary diploma or degree program
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to connect with the public to deliver key messages on City programs
Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps
Familiarity with the basics of climate change science, household energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies (such as solar PV) and sustainable transportation
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of this position
Familiarity with social media and social marketing is an asset

This position may be partially funded through the Alberta Government Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP). Successful candidates must meet all program eligibility criteria including, but not limited to: not a current employee at the City of Edmonton. Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary Range: $17.954 - $19.749 (Hourly)
