The LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch is responsible for effectively and efficiently planning, designing and delivering LRT infrastructure projects such as Metro Line, Valley Line, and Capital Line. The Branch is guided by and aligned with Council’s vision for Edmonton identified through Council’s strategic priorities, the Municipal Development Plan, the Transportation Master Plan, and numerous other Council-approved policies and strategic initiatives.

The direction set by these strategic plans, priorities, and policies have culminated in a commitment to create a compact and more integrated urban environment, where people can get where they need to go with more choices including sustainable transportation modes. In contribution to this vision, the LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch is currently overseeing approximately $4 billion in LRT projects both in design and under construction. This includes the $2.6 Billion Valley Line West that is in procurement and the $300 Million Metro Line North project that will be procured later this year.

The Director, LRT Infrastructure Delivery will have the exciting opportunity to be a key leader in these transformational projects that will shape transportation in Edmonton for decades. As the Director, you will:

  • Lead LRT Infrastructure expansion and renewal programs and projects that will inspire the trust and confidence of Council and Citizens, and achieve the vision of a five-line system by 2040
  • Guide, mentor, and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication, solve problems creatively, promote integration and collaboration, and support excellence
  • Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial resources in the conceptualization and delivery of the work
  • Provide leadership, development and coaching, performance evaluation and feedback, health and wellness, safety, staff recruitment and selection, and succession planning
  • Collaborate with several internal stakeholders across the corporation
  • Liase with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders such as: Council, consultants, contractors, union leaders, citizens, and various departments and branches across the Corporation


Qualifications

:
  • Ideally, the successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Master’s Degree in a related field, P.Eng. designation, and/or additional training in the areas of project management, change management, financial management, public administration and government relations are considered assets. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Ideally, the successful candidate will possess a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience managing large teams with a mix of consultants and direct reports in the delivery of high profile and large scale transportation, transit/light rail or other related projects. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Ability to think strategically to address large, complex issues, to manage emergent projects while steering dynamically
  • Advanced skills, knowledge and understanding of business, government, strategic thinking, systems thinking, financial management, change management, organizational development, and project management
  • Ability to anticipate, assess and readily adapt to changing priorities, maintain resilience in times of uncertainty and effectively work and lead in a changing environment
  • Exceptional presentation skills; ability to present effectively to City Council, Executive Leadership, media, stakeholders, and the public
  • Proven skills in leading and motivating teams with a track record of building healthy, positive, and respectful workplace environments that enable staff to reach their potential while fostering organizational capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to model the Cultural Commitments of Safe; Helpful; Accountable; Integrated; and Excellent, and inspire the same in others

Salary: $130,111 - $162,640 (Annually)
