The Digital Services team is dedicated to managing the external facing, digital presence of the City of Edmonton. The team works collaboratively to address citizen needs by balancing user experience, technology and business needs.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Digital Product Management, this role supports the delivery of high quality, business-valued solutions through existing and new digital products. These may include stand-alone web/digital projects or systems that enhance or extend the integration of new or existing systems, data, or digital strategies. Technical work will be completed in a collaborative way between Digital Services, various branches of the City, and external vendors and works effectively across multiple technical systems, groups, and geographic locations.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
  • Work with Digital Strategists to identify, anticipate and analyze business needs
  • Manage the relationship between the business needs, technology and user experience
  • Translate high-level business and user requirements into functional products, working in tandem with other members of the Digital Product team, various branches of the City, and/or external vendors
  • Resolve complex enterprise-wide problems by taking a broad perspective in assessing and recommending innovative technology solutions Support functional and technical application design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of multi-tier web based solutions
  • Provide recommendations on technology investments and participate in the review of new technology to continually automate and improve the business solutions
  • Lead applications review and design, and provide specifications for modifications and development
  • Assess the implications in terms of technology, business processes, reporting and system functionality and make recommendations
  • Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) and help coordinate deployments to production
  • Understand the business requirements of the clients and translate them into a solution
  • Use a variety of skills, such as facilitation, written and verbal communication, and understanding of a wide variety of technology, design, and user community culture and expectations
  • Coordinate with business clients regarding technical issues that may have the potential to affect a large area or may affect the architecture and standards of the City’s website environment
  • Improve and document changes to standard practice and process

Qualifications

:
  • Post-secondary Degree in Business Administration, Web Administration/Development, Web Technology/Programming, Computing Science or a related discipline Coursework in web analysis, design, information architecture, project management, application development
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible web application development experience
  • Exceptional consultation, observational, analysis, and facilitation skills
  • Expert knowledge in web application design and development, information architecture development for web sites, web applications and business application assessments
  • Experience with responsive web design and modern web development practices
  • Proficient understanding of web markup including HTML5 and CSS3 Demonstrated expert experience in JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, .NET is an asset
  • Experience consuming web services (APIs) and building front-end integrations
  • Analytical skills to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, manage conflicts and identify appropriate solutions
  • Strong understanding of web analytics (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and promote web application initiatives with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and provide a high level of customer service
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
