How do you make data speak? Can you create strong visualizations using data? Then this is the job for you!
As a core member of City of Edmonton Analytics Centre of Excellence (ACE) you will leverage your deep understanding of data storytelling and design techniques to provide strategic advice and guidance on complex issues. In addition, you will undertake and advance financial analysis, performance measurement and business analyst best practices with business units.
Analytics and Storytelling
  • Determine core work priorities and self manage major accountabilities under broad direction with and good understanding of the Section's strategic direction
  • Required to provide "last mile" supports - transforming analytic insight into application and ensuring results are achieved
  • Provide input and implementation supports related to Section policy and service development
Collaboration and Engagement
  • Develop and deliver technical and complex Analytic Centre of Excellence training programs, requiring the interpretation of information and specialized content advice
  • Responsible for problem resolution and will require significant independent judgment related to the determination of core work priorities
  • Identify opportunities to develop efficiencies related to core work priorities and major accountabilities that address emerging Corporate needs
  • Required to maintain an awareness of best practices within professional discipline
Public and Internal Relations
  • Explain difficult concepts and persuade diverse business areas to adopt a data-driven point of view
  • Lead portfolio projects and actively encourage teamwork within the Section
  • Responsible for achieving results using the social network, unwritten informal structure, culture, and rules of the organization
Leadership/Project Management
  • Establish, demonstrate and hold others accountable to the commitments of the Department, Branch, Section and Unit
  • Ensure that values are translated and inherent in processes and practices
  • Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication, solve problems creatively, promote integration and support excellence

Qualifications

:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Business, Arts, Fine Arts, Communication, Marketing, or a related discipline
  • 5 years progressively responsible experience working with corporate performance measures and business case development
  • Proven experience with data visualization techniques coupled with spatial data experience (i.e. GIS)
  • Experience advancing financial analysis, performance measurement and business analysis best practices with work units across a wide range of disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience providing 'analytic translation' - providing a clear and inspiring approach to extract meaning from analytics using data, visuals and narrative
  • Skilled at analyzing data, deriving insights and building creative output in order to turn complex challenges into easy to understand formats
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to interact with clients, staff, management and senior executives to resolve complex challenges through visualization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, presenting and storytelling
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with a variety of presentation, graphic design applications, and tools
