Finance provides strategic financial planning, accounting and reporting services to the city, processes citywide accounts payable and accounts receivables, manages the investment of city funds and issuance of debt instruments, and provides risk control and prevention for the city.

Job Title:

Financial Reporting Accountant II

Summary:

The City of Charlotte Finance Department is seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant II to work in the Financial Reporting Division. This position serves as a member of the Financial Reporting team which consists of a Chief Accountant, Assistant Chief Accountant, Accountants, a Business Systems Specialist, Administrative Officer and Accounting Technicians.

This role will perform advanced professional work managing an accounting related operation and reviewing and preparing financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for governmental organizations. The Financial Reporting Accountant II will work with the Chief and Assistant Chief Accountant, department heads, City staff and other financial professionals inside the organization. This position reports to the Financial Reporting Accountant III.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure integrity of City’s financial statements
  • Monitor financial transactions & ensure appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Provide accounting support Charlotte Douglas International Airport (Airport) staff
  • Participate in preparation & review of Airport’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
  • Prepare annual & interim financial statements
  • Prepare & review journal / budget entries
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations & analyze subsidiary ledgers
  • Prepare & update procedural processes
  • Conduct research & provide information on various projects as needed
  • Ensure compliance with other required financial reports
  • Participate in other projects as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Degree in accounting / finance / closely related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification
  • Thorough knowledge of principles & practices of governmental accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of general methods for evaluating financial performance such as:
    • income statement preparation
    • variance analysis
    • break-even analysis
    • Proficiency with personal computers including spreadsheet & database applications
  • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong written & oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • In depth knowledge of governmental accounting & sophisticated governmental entities
  • Three or more years of relevant government work experience in accounting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with one year of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties

Salary:

  • $66,047 - $82,559; Commensurate with Experience
