Manager of Recreation and Culture At City of Cambridge

Job Profile

This is a key leadership role within the Community Development Department, Parks, and Recreation & Culture Division. Reporting to the Director of Parks Recreation and Culture, this position is responsible for the development and management of quality customer focused recreational programs and services to the community. The Manager of Recreation and Culture will use their exceptional motivational, team-building and people management skills to provide leadership to the core Program areas, Special Events, while managing daily operations. Having outstanding communication skills and sound judgement, the Manager will build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external customers and community partners.

What you will be doing
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the City’s recreational programs; including Aquatics, Children, Youth, Older Adult, Day Camp, Sport, Art, Culture and Special events
  • Responsible for the management of all regulations governing programs, operations and public events
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the Recreation team and the Recreation and Culture Division
  • Preparing/analyzing operating and capital budgets. Accountable for the development, monitoring, and analyzing of recreation facility and program area budgets
  • Responsible for the overall success of the Sponsorship Programs and Initiatives
  • Consults with staff, community and senior leaders in the organization to develop strategic work plans consistent with the goals and objectives of the corporation
  • A strategic thinker and creative facilitator who is adaptable and works with minimal supervision; Ensures employees and contractors work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, and to takes every reasonable precaution to protect the workers
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the collective bargaining agreement and a working knowledge of the collective bargaining process
  • Scheduled on call hours are required
Education

Undergraduate Degree.
Preferably in Recreation and Leisure or related discipline


Experience and Knowledge

A strategic thinker and creative facilitator who is adaptable and works with minimal supervision; 5 to 7 years of progressive experience at a management level preferably in a municipal recreation environment; with direct program experience as well as operational and legislative knowledge related to older adults, aquatics, children, youth, day camp and sport programming, festivals and events, arts and culture. The ability to plan and coordinate a variety of resources, activities, and projects in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. Demonstrated experience at a management level with preparing/analyzing operating and capital budgets and working collaboratively with community partners. Facility management will be considered an asset.

  • Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
  • Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour (may be obtained post offer)
  • Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED certification, HIGH FIVE and QUEST Principles considered an asset.
  • Valid G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Your compensation

This position is within Grade 7 of the Non-Union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $100,473 to $122,529. We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

Hours of work

Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm (35 hours per week) with occasional evening and weekend shifts, including scheduled on call duties for the Parks, Recreation and Culture Division.
