Community Services Attendant At City of Cambridge

Job Profile

The Community Services Attendant delivers superior service to the public through the front-line operation of recreational facilities/parks and related equipment. This position ensures the highest of standards at all City of Cambridge owned community centres and recreation facilities, parks and public spaces by performing maintenance and custodial duties, ensuring the safety and security of facilities and completing all required documentation while operating in a team environment to accomplish positive customer experiences.

What you will be doing
  • Performs general labour, maintenance and repair activities on municipal recreational facilities and lands to the highest of standards, including, parks, arenas, trails, core areas and fields (e.g. Ice maintenance, turf maintenance, refrigeration system operation, snow and ice removal, landscape maintenance, full building custodial care and litter/debris and syringe removal;
  • Operates all arena, parks and facilities equipment, including ice resurface, tractors, etc. and performs maintenance of heating, electrical, plumbing, lighting and cleaning equipment
  • Interacts with the public in a professional, positive manner, providing information and guidance
  • Completes administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. attendance, incident/accident reports, facility inspection reports, log books and communicates status with other employees
  • Facility preparation and facilitation of events, including set-up/clean-up, the coordination of crowd control during on-ice activities and large events, ensures proper security measures are maintained at all assigned facilities
Education
High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Minimum Requirements

2-4 years' experience in parks maintenance, arena services and building maintenance is considered an asset
Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted class “G” Ontario Driver’s License (DZ License is preferred) and must have a satisfactory drivers abstract.
Basic Computer skills/literacy required
Able to perform routine safety inspections on CSD property and equipment
Knowledge of equipment and cleaning tools (per CSA I Outline)
Able to meet personal criteria (per CSA 1 Outline)
Ability to work in varying and extreme weather conditions.
Knowledge and experience in Arena and ice making operations, general building maintenance and the use of maintenance equipment is considered an asset
Demonstrated ability working with management, other employees, and the public in a courteous and efficient manner that emphasizes customer service.
Demonstrated team building skills including interpersonal, communication and problem solving.

Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour
Valid G driver's license.
Your compensation

This position is within the outside workers union salary schedule and has an hourly rate of $25.67 per hour. (Probationary rate $24.26 will apply for external candidates).

Hours of Work

Monday to Sunday, eight hour shifts (40 hours per week) scheduled between 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. with the requirement to be available for overtime, on call duty, and possible shiftwork, as needed.
