Waste & Recycling Educator At City of Calgary

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Job Description

As a Waste and Recycling Educator you will represent Waste and Recycling Services (W&RS) in all aspects of the business unit and promoting the vision of leading the community towards zero waste through the development and delivery of public programs. Primary duties include:
  • Develop and deliver W&RS educational programs to school groups, general public and specific groups as requested, such as seniors, persons with developmental disabilities, businesses, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Maintain program information, track participation, and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Liaise with local organizations to train volunteers in support of their waste and recycling education and waste diversion efforts.
  • Represent W&RS at public events such as trade shows, festivals, councilor events , other booths in public areas.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop customized information sessions to promote services.
  • Develop communication materials and write educational material based on the latest research in the field of environmental education.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to collect and analyze data.
Qualifications
  • A completed 2 year diploma in Environmental Education, Communications, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, combined with at least 3 years of relevant experience; OR A degree in any of the above listed fields or related combined with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Experience must include customer service, handling customer complaints and difficult customers, education techniques, and event management.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office PowerPoint is also required.
  • A solid understanding of environmental education techniques will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent customer focus, communication, social marketing and environmental education skills and the ability to engage and interact with the public.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit .
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Position Type: 1 Temporary Part-Time (18 months)
Location: 480 - 36 Avenue S.E.

Compensation: Pay Grade 8 $33.29 - 44.52 per hour (2017 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works various days in a work week.

Hours of work: This position typically works Part -Time 17.5 hours per week
