Team Lead, Industrial Monitoring At City of Calgary

As the Team Lead, Industrial Monitoring, you will lead a team responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance of industrial and commercial wastewater discharges. You will create and encourage a collaborative culture for staff and will provide leadership and technical expertise related to Industrial and Commercial Wastewater Quality; environmental issues and legislation; and industrial monitoring, surcharge and septage. Your duties will include:
  • Provide staff development, coaching, engagement and performance management.
  • Prepare and monitor resources (including business planning, budgets and staffing).
  • Prioritize operational priorities; provide leadership and direction setting for compliance initiatives.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and champion employee safety.
  • Active involvement in cross utility initiatives, providing technical expertise and advice to internal and external stakeholders (for example Industrial Customers) on issues such as bylaw compliance, permitting, industrial inspections & monitoring.
  • Leads compliance programs; including Industrial Monitoring and Surcharge, Fats Oils Grease (FOG) Management, Septage Disposal, Permitting, and Compliance Monitoring. Identifies opportunities for improvement, develops and implements program and process efficiencies and effectiveness that are in alignment with water quality best practices and technology advancements.

Qualifications
  • A degree in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Management or Science).
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience working with water and wastewater chemistry that includes experience in industrial processes and waste, wastewater treatment processes, compliance monitoring, environmental and wastewater legislation, bylaws and stewardship and best management practices and technology.
  • Success requires strong analytical skills; collaborative and strategic leadership; superior written and oral communication; the ability to engage and motivate staff; strong relationship-building skills.
  • Professional certification as a Professional Engineer or Professional Chemist will be considered as an asset.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Compensation: Level F $88,307- 135,252 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
