Senior Engineering Technologist At City of Calgary

Reporting to the Leader, Development Approvals, the Senior Engineering Technologist provides expertise, analyzes submissions, and makes decisions on development applications and other special circulations from developers and engineering consultants regarding stormwater management, sanitary sewer and water network design. This position works independently, with little supervision of the day to day work. Primary duties include:
  • Provide expertise regarding professional, corporate, provincial and environmental standards for development applications related to water, stormwater and sanitary sewer requirements.
  • Coordinate, review and comment on various applications on capital projects, shallow utilities and land circulations.
  • Liaise with applicants to ensure Water Resources requirements are met, communicate decisions and address inquiries.
  • Give expertise for urban development issues to Corporate Planning Applications Group (CPAG) regarding development requirements related to water/sanitary sewer/stormwater.
  • Lead, coach, and train other technologists in duties of the position.
  • Facilitate review, advise and provide expertise to other internal stakeholder in order to help with negotiation and conflict resolutions.
  • Lead and/or provide input into process improvement projects.

Qualifications
  • Completed 2 year diploma in Engineering Technology or a related discipline (for example: Civil Engineering Technology).
  • Must have (or be eligible for) a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in municipal engineering technology, focused on planning, design, construction of water/wastewater distribution systems, erosion/sediment control, and hydraulics.
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings, bylaws, specifications, preparation of technical documents and field inspections are required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is essential.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) interface programs and other related engineering software and modeling systems are considered assets.
  • Strong communication, analytical and decision making skills.

Compensation : Pay Grade 12 $41.44 - 55.40 per hour (2017 Rates)
Days of Work : This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
