Recreation Programmer At City of Calgary

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Job Description

As a Recreation Programmer, you will plan and run a variety of activities, special events, and recreation programs while ensuring the safety of participants. These programs may operate at City pools, Leisure Centre Day Camps, and Community programs such as Park and Play. Primary duties include:
  • Support program staff and volunteers by providing coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide subject matter expertise at Leader and Instructor training events.
  • Organize and keep an inventory of program equipment and supplies.
  • Answer customer questions and provide program information.
  • Populate, print, and distribute program information to customers.
  • Complete program observations and provide feedback.
  • Join in on program activities when required.

Qualifications
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g.: GED).
  • At least 1 year of related leadership experience.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.
  • Possess a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search would be considered an asset. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
  • Applicants must be willing to complete City specific training that is provided free of charge.
  • A Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for work.
  • Previous experience working with children and youth will be considered an asset.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit may be required for some positions.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $16.00 - 19.00 per hour
Days of Work: This position works daytime, evening and occasional weekend shifts.
Hours of work: On-Call hours will vary based upon operational requirements.
