Job Summary

This position will play the lead role in the company’s global fund consolidations process and will focus on leading all efforts to operationally complete our fund consolidations process. The operational fund consolidation process, includes working with internal and external teams to obtain fund source information and ensuring that fund data is correctly and completely reflected in the company’s accounting system according to US GAAP standards. Additionally, the position will be responsible for ensuring that all necessary intercompany and non-controlling interest (NCI) eliminations are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

The position will report to the Global Director of Accounting Policy and Consolidations and will work closely with, and obtain guidance from, the consolidation determination team. The position will have regular interactions with all levels of the organization, including the company’s parent (MassMutual). The position will reside in our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively lead all efforts to improve the operational CIF process, including decreasing reliance on Excel-based workbooks and leveraging the company’s accounting system to automate the CIFs process and improve existing internal controls;
  • Obtain all necessary source files for each consolidating fund, including coordination with various TPAs of deliverable timing;
  • Ensure that fund source files are accurately and completely mapped to the company’s chart of accounts and that all intercompany and NCI eliminations are reflected in the company’s consolidated trial balance;
  • Provide regular communication on the status of the operational CIFs close to Director of Accounting Policy and Consolidations, the Director of Internal Reporting and the Global Controller;
  • Identify, monitor and resolve any CIFs-related issues that were discovered during the quarterly close process and ensure that all identified issues are resolved, documented and (if needed) corrected in a timely manner;
  • Prepare all CIF financial statement disclosures for the company’s annual consolidated financial statements;
  • Primary contact for all operational CIF-related questions from internal accounting team, as well as MassMutual and external and internal audit teams;
  • Coaching junior team members;
  • Lead special projects, as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years relevant accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, specifically, ASC 810, Consolidations and the mechanics of consolidation and eliminations
  • Prior experience/knowledge of fund accounting (prepared in accordance with ASC 946, Investment Companies)
  • CPA with public accounting experience required
  • Experience with Workday a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel
  • Strong interactive skills, able to build strong working relationships
  • Flexible in handling and setting multiple priorities, excellent time management skills
  • Strong organizational, staff management, analytical, and time management skills
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently, and as part of a broader team, and communicate effectively across company locations and organizational lines
  • Be open to change, and when required, embrace change
  • Demonstrated success in implementing accounting and financial review process improvements
