During your internship at Arup, you’ll have the chance to work with some of the most highly respected engineers and specialists in the world. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Intern in our Toronto office to work as part of our local HR Team. This position provides support for the following local HR teams:

  • HR Business Partners
  • International Mobility
  • Learning & Development
  • Talent Acquisition
  • Total Rewards

Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Conduct new hire orientation and process new hire paperwork; verify new hire work authorization documents
  • Maintain and ensure accurate and timely entry of HR transactions entering data in HRIS system (basic system updates) related to new hires, change of status, employee benefits, training, and termination of employment for efficient processing between HR, Facilities and IT
  • Maintain personnel records and HR files including maintenance of systems for proper HR reporting and documentation; conduct internal audits on HR files
  • Generate staff correspondences such as salary letters, verification letters, change letters, etc
  • Coordinate training for local offices in partnership with the Regional Learning & Development team
  • Participate in local HR staff meetings and engage in local office people initiatives
  • Support the annual people processes: performance appraisals, promotions, salary reviews, and talent management
  • Work with members of HR team to support the delivery of the region people implementation plan
  • Assist with Diversity and Inclusion projects and local office initiatives
  • Provide support to intern and campus recruiting programs as needed
  • Assist regional mobility team with immigration support and assignee experience needs
  • Administratively support regional projects across all HR functions

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be pursuing bachelor's degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Sociology, or other related field
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant internship and/or professional work experience
  • Have the ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and exceptional organization skills required for our rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrate integrity, confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • Accountable for accuracy and timeliness of work within the department
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think on your feet and contribute innovative solutions
  • Have presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
  • Must be able to work under limited supervision and possess excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and best practices in Human Resources, Employee Relations and Employee Engagement
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Candidate must not require sponsorship, now or in the future to be considered for this specific role

Preferred:

  • Experience utilizing HR or learning systems such as Oracle, Ceridian DayForce, Taleo, Hire Right, Skill Survey, Moodle, etc.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment and labor laws and government compliance requirements; knowledge of immigration laws and processes a plus
