Job Description
Purpose of Job:
This position is responsible for providing management with timely and accurate financial information that supports the day-to-day accounting functions. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and be willing to take on new roles as needed. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. This position also needs to help out in different departments to facilitate smooth workflows among departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the financial classification of transactions in accordance with GAAP. Ensure accurate and timely close process through preparation or review of monthly close schedule, journal entries, schedules and reconciliations
- Day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger accounting, AP and AR including employee expense reimbursement
- Create and maintain spreadsheets supporting financial statements, management reports
- Account reconciliation; balance sheet, bank transactions, cash posting, pre-paid, and fixed assets
- Maintain the fixed asset schedules, ensure proper recording of new purchases and disposals, fixed asset inventory management
- Help prepare monthly financial statements, P&L, analysis of variances and other supporting schedules as needed
- Prepare, review and complete journal entries
- Provide financial information, summaries and schedules to support audit and tax activities
- Understand and maintain a properly organized Chart of Accounts
- Maintain existing internal control procedures
- Work collaboratively with the Accounting team and other Departments to analyze and recommend procedural changes to improve communications and/or work flow within and between Departments
- Develop, as requested, an understanding of the Company software in sufficient depth to be able to process transactions within the Accounting Department or other Departments on an emergency basis should the need arise
Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Accounting
- 1-2 years of General Accounting experience
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution setting preferred
- Solid understanding of Accounting processes, procedures and internal control including US GAAP
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, intermediate level experience in Excel
