Manager, Tax Analytics and Systems Compliance - Montreal At Air Canada

The main responsibility of this position is to provide input and perspective on all projects, initiatives and changes with possible tax implications:


  • Strongly collaborate with the IT Branch and Systems teams to achieve mission critical, time sensitive tax data and reports requirements, without exception.

  • From a tax perspective, lead and drive implementation of initiatives to ensure that all data generated by business systems throughout the organization meet the requirements of the various tax laws and regulations. Responsible as well for any business process re-engineering involving tax implications to ensure continuous compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Responsible for the development and the management of data processes relevant to taxes, over very large volumes of complex data (data analytics), to build the appropriate support for any governmental audit and for tax special projects.

  • Manage, lead and oversee a number of large projects simultaneously, along with the necessary resources, internal and external, through to completion.

  • Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing activities with the IT group and Business owners of systems & softwares (such as PeopleSoft, Navitaire, PAICE, RESIII, AR Page, E-invoicing, Sabre, TRAX, Enterprise Data Warehouse, etc.), to evaluate and ensure that taxes are properly integrated & reflected in these systems/software, including system testing.

  • Establish, liaise and facilitate work with IT group and other system stakeholders to ensure continuous collaboration with the Tax Department for any new system implementation, system modification, the re-engineering of processes.

  • Partner with the IT group and Business owners of systems for any planned system changes to ensure tax requirements are properly reflected and integrated in the system changes.

  • Work closely with colleagues within the Tax Department to determine data requirements, to ensure a sound and robust process for the extraction and manipulation of data and images for reporting and/or audit purposes.

  • Manage all required data for all initiatives of tax recoveries.

  • Work with Senior Director, Directors and Managers within Tax Department to ensure the implementation of any tax changes or any data requirements.

  • Provide guidance & direction from a tax technical standpoint, as well as liaise with other system resources, to ensure timely production of high quality exception reports.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor Degree in either management of information system/technology, computer science, or statistics.

  • Over 5 years of professional experience in related fields

  • Strong expertise with the SQL language, relational database framework and at least one Database Management System (Microsoft SQL-Server, TeraData, Oracle) is a pre-requisite

  • Strong experience with at least one database query tool (Teradata SQL-Assistant, Oracle SQL-Developer, Microsoft SQL-Server Management Studio, Microsoft Access);

  • Experience with Access, ACL, IDEA, SAS or other database software/languages is a strong asset

  • Experience with MS Office applications (Excel and Powerpoint) is a pre-requisite

  • Knowledge of Teradata is a strong asset

  • Basic knowledge of Java script for SharePoint is an asset;

  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial commodity tax legislation (e.g., GST/HST, QST, PST, Excise Tax and Fuel Tax) is an asset.

  • Ability to understand and relate required analysis to business implications

  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and ability to take initiative

  • Ability to think critically and innovatively.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to perform under pressure.

  • Comfortable working in an environment that requires solving complex, open-ended problems with minimal guidance.
