Manager, Financial Services - Downtown Toronto At Air Canada

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Services – Loyalty and eCommerce, the incumbent will be responsible to provide end-to-end financial services related to Loyalty accrual and redemption activities (non-air partnerships). This includes financial management, financial planning, financial reporting, gross-billings, cost of non-air rewards, non-air redemption management and other financial services. The incumbent will be working closely with Loyalty senior management, and cross functional branches to manage the Loyalty accrual and redemption activities. Additionally, will be working closely with corporate planning and Winnipeg accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Building effective relationships in order to provide financial direction, leadership and support to the Air Canada Loyalty branch in the ongoing management of its business and the development of its business plans
  • Ensure effective financial management, processes/systems and controls are developed, implemented and maintained in accordance with policies and requirements
  • The individual will be expected to build a strong understanding of all contractual partnership agreements which include accrual or redemption activities and how it relates to the overall airline strategy and revenue reporting
  • Establish a positive relationship with management in order to balance financial control/advisory and support. Effectively communicate financial results and provide overview to senior management specifically on redemption/accrual trends and redemption value per point including a balance of trade by airline
  • Identify areas requiring reporting/benchmarking. Develop meaningful reports, advisory and analysis in an effort to aid the branch to make strategic business decisions to meet/exceed financial targets related to redemption margins
  • Perform cost and value comparisons to continuously improve financial performance and to help support business cases and branch performance. Financial performance analysis should include a development of financial performance indicators that can be monitored over time to better understand the cause and effect relationship between accruals and redemptions and how it ties to overall airline strategy
  • Assist clients in all financial aspects of the management control process (i.e. month-end accruals/explanations, invoice validation, outlooks, budgets etc.)
  • Perform due diligence in AFC reviews. Work with senior management to develop, review and test AFC and business case submissions ahead of the Finance Committee review, challenging the client on requested funds and recommend possible alternatives. Identify and address foreseeable issues and potential risk associated with request expenditures. Perform financial analysis and evaluations (pre and post) of AFC’s to test and assess the delivered benefits and results
  • Ensure that every expense is associate to an approved AFC and is linked to an approved contract
  • Ensure a consistently high-level of quality in service provided in terms of timeliness and accuracy – including automated checks and balances
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of activities/issues/trends pertaining to the airline and loyalty industry

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Business, Finance or Accounting is required
  • Accounting and/or business designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA, MBA, CFA) is an asset
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others
  • Self-started, energetic with strong sense of initiative and creativity
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to analyze and report back on complex data
  • Demonstrated organization skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Experience working with financial software/applications such as Microsoft Suite/Peoplesoft/SAP/Tableau
