Database Administrator At AIMCo Canada

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of IT Infrastructure Support, the Database Administrator manages all of the AIMCo databases (SQL Server & Oracle) and is responsible for ensuring the optimized performance, integrity, and security of all data encompassed within the corporate databases.

The Database Administrator (DBA) is also responsible for building effective and usable databases to support new and existing business applications. The DBA plays a lead role in architecting and designing database technology. The DBA will also provide expertise to the Application Management teams in the creation and maintenance of effective database-coupled application logic, stored procedures, packages and triggers. The DBA is responsible for the promotion of data within all environments, assisting with the provision of test data, assisting with movement of data from one environment to another and ensuring that data is kept confidential and secure.

This position is recognized as the Oracle and SQL Server database expert and plays a major role in the implementation of system development, maintenance, and enhancement initiatives. The DBA leads in the planning and coordinating of new technology upgrades and enhancements with regards to databases. This position is responsible for ensuring that the production application environment is maintained and operational.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • University degree, diploma or certificate in IT or a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server database software including SQL server utilities, maintenance plans for backups and access interfaces such as ODBC, OLE/DB and ADO.
  • In-depth knowledge of database administration techniques, principles and practices, system maintenance/development and technical support, relational database theory and data modeling skills.
  • Knowledge of the MS Windows operating system, related tools and utilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface and build relationships with key clients.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and involvement in implementing major system enhancements and upgrades is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge and ideas to non-technical staff.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks including competing and conflicting priorities and time sensitive requests.
  • Oracle and SQL Server certifications are an asset.
